Obituary of Dennis Douglas Schwartzbauer

October 12, 1940 – January 28, 2024

Dennis Douglas Schwartzbauer, 83, of Saint Paul, passed away on January 28th, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. 

Dennis was a self-proclaimed curmudgeon whose family and friends only sometimes agreed with him. We saw him as loyal, generous, resilient, and larger than life.   We adored his laugh and dry sense of humor.  You could often find him tinkering, fixing things with duct tape, watching PBS, listening to music, watching baseball, reading the newspaper and re-heating his coffee.  He was an avid fly fisherman who loved fishing the Kinnickinnic River.  He loved all outdoor activities and sharing these passions with those he loved.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Angela (John) Leonard, Patty (Geno) Oehrlein, and Mark (Kari) Schwartzbauer; grandchildren, Nicole (Jeremy), Melina, Laura, Tony, Brandon, Brittany (Aaron), Katie, Drew, and Carter; great-grandchildren, Ellie, Jayden, Harper, Mia, Alexander, Elyse, and Jett. 

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Lucille and Walter; his brother, Ronald; and granddaughter, Erin.  

Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 5th, 2024, at 11:00AM.  Visitation will be at 10:00AM. Spielman Mortuary, 344 University Avenue West, Saint Paul, Minnesota, 55103. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to be made to the Gabbert Raptor Center (University of MN).
