Obituary of Van Allen Strickland

Van Allen Strickland was born on December 12, 1949, in Chicago, IL. He was the second of three children born to the late Robert Strickland and Nina Jackson. He departed this life on August 7, 2023.

Van attended Thornton Township High School in Harvey, IL. Here he developed a love for photography after joining the Photography Club. This Interest later included videography. While he worked at Illinois Bell Telephone Company full-time, he also enjoyed being a freelance photographer on the weekends.

In the early 1980’s he relocated to Minneapolis, MN making this his home for the next 15-20 years. Van continued his interest in photography and videography by taking several family videos with his video cam. Birthdays, Christmas’s, Family Reunion, and family picnics, him and his tripod were always there. Eventually he returned to Chicago and accepted a position with United Airlines from where he retired in 2017.

Van had a full and busy life. He loved to travel including Cruises, Disney World, Wisconsin dells. Road trips and stopping by a casino, every once in a while. He’s a Man who touched many lives and was well loved by family and friends.

Van leaves to cherish his memory sister Karen Williams (Robert) Partner Sherree, five Children, daughter Morgan Strickland, Sons, Jordan Strickland (Gina) Sundiata Bronson (Penny) Van Strickland aka-Binky, Van Strickland aka-Strick (Melissa), Grandchildren, Payton, Brooklyn, Jayden, Analeigha, Sonserya, Jaycen, Azoria, Peyten, LaVance, Daijah, Dytarius , great grandchildren, Jayden, Jaxson Xy’aire, Ezekiel, and a host of extended family nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends

He was preceded in death by Martin Strickland, brother.
